Pennard Area Community Partnership (PACP) is an organisation within the community of Pennard that operates on a charitable basis to take ideas within the community forward. They have agreed to investigate the feasibility of putting on the first event, making use of the "Night Out" scheme, putting in place a process for a team of individuals to take over and turn this into a regular activity - even if it's only twice a year!
Gower Unearthed have HLF to develop an art project highlighting local poet Vernon Watkins. To extend the legacy we would like to develop a community supported venture gathering annicdotes stories and local knowledge regarding an overlooked talent. This could feed into an educational resource also and slot into the national curriculum There will also be an annual walk and discussion event from Three cliffs coffee shop and Jamie would provide the hub and information. This would be a wonderful engagement project that could branch out over the years creating a stage to present Vernons poetry to a greater audience . I have communicated this wish to his wife Gwen who has previously given us her blessing. I have also written to the ex Archbishop Rowan Williams who wants to highlight Vernons great works within the same context.
FoPL has copyright permission on Vernon Watkin's published and unpublished works. An archive of Watkin's work in a new building would be fabulous, as he was a one time resident of the village. Would tie in perfectly with Swansea's City of Culture bid.
